An astonishing, sensual, riveting account of young love. Not always faithful to the book, but that's usually a good thing: the ending improves on the source material, for example, while the lengthy (and slightly dull) middle-section is significantly reduced.

Timothée Chalamet gives the clear performance of the year, while Michael Stuhlbarg's monologue towards the end deserves to go down in history as one of the great film moments. The fact we see straight sex more explicitly than gay sex is a little wearying, but this film is otherwise utterly flawless.
