Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Blue D — 12 Oct 2018
For someone raised by moderately conservative people, I had a brief period of time where I questioned whether or not I was homophobic -- Even unintentionally so. But that isn't what this movie was about. It was about a not so strange love.
Although the relationship wasn't weird to me, this pairing didn't immediately make me an avid fan. Oh yes, there was tension, and attraction, and desire. But so much changed scene to scene, it was hard to understand exactly how things were moving. Some things were obvious, but some things...well, I feel like i'd have to watch it again just to grasp at it. It was a bit like studying someone, when you want to know what exactly is on their mind. But, yes -- the age gap was a bit weird...and also the power dynamic(?) Something was a bit too off for it to feel cozy...
(But goddamn, look at the eyes on that kid. And he speaks french too...*fans*).
