Review of Call Me by Your Name (2017) by Chelsey C — 10 Dec 2017
A very long and hollow movie with all the content of an empty bottle. Meant to be romantic and heart-rending, it succeeds only in being tedious, repetitive and emotionally silent. Long pauses and actor staring into the distance are not illuminating they just try your patience.
Director Guadagnino has no interest in actual human behavior, he in interested only in scenic shots and long silent pauses...which he hopes will be read into by the audience as something significant. The much praised actors are barely up to the job - particularly Army Hammer who has the acting skills of Troy Donahue and is in way over his head.
..and gets no help at all from Guadagnino. Gay or straight, it this movie moves you you have had no real experience of love or friendship in your life. An empty bottle, this endless movie offers nothing but pretty scenery.
