Review of Caligula (1979) by Matthew R — 26 Sep 2011
This is without doubt the most depraved film I have ever seen in my life, its unbelievable and its more unbelievable the stellar cast who are in it including Helen Mirren, Peter Oâ(TM) Toole, John Gielgud and the bonkers Malcolm McDowell.
Basically the film is almost three hours of filth and violence, the biggest positive of the film is Malcolm McDowell as Caligula, he makes the part his own and is fascinating to watch, totally unpredictable, Helen Mirren is also very good and Peter Oâ(TM) Toole looks pissed up on all his scenes.
The negatives are that even though it has an epic quality it just comes across cheap and has dodgy dubbing even though it is the original actors voices, also the film is an hour too long.
A truly shocking film that goes too far, not for the easily offended.
