Review of Caligula (1979) by Max S — 11 Dec 2008
Anyone who honestly thinks this film is pornography is an idiot. It is not GOOD by any critical standard, but as an entirety it is a necessary example of what can go both right and wrong in the film medium.
The cinematography is surprisingly good, the performances are sub-par but stomachable, and the soundtrack serves its purpose. There are a few short, brilliant moments in this film, but it is largely a self-indulgent bastardization of history in the vein of an Andy Warhol piece.
