Review of Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014) by David M — 10 Feb 2014
With the name Cabin Fever attached to it, I wanted to see stupid kids dying in stupid, barely explicable ways. I know I'm in the vast minority in that I kinda loved Cabin Fever 2, and it really sucks for me personally that they tried to "improve" on the formula and get rid of absolutely EVERY campy vibe from the last one. I know, I know, today everyone likes grit and camp isn't super appreciated, and I enjoy my fair share of gritty movies, but come on this is Cabin Fever. The original isn't great because of how serious it is.
Given that it tried to explain the origins of the disease and given that I just don't give a shit about the origins of the disease, this film was incredibly boring. Stretches of it felt like the crew was just following the actors around a haunted corn maze with cameras, and when the two storylines met, instead of caring more about the one I already hated I just slightly disliked the one that was digestible.
It managed to have a few fun mindless gore scenes that weren't excessively tired, and that's the reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1.
