Review of Cabin Fever (2003) by Jacob G — 09 Oct 2010
College students going to a cabin in the woods, only to find themselves getting killed doesn't really sound original. Roth's take on the genre, however, is relatively interesting. The lack of a specific bad guy is refreshing.
The way the film hones in on something most people take for granted (tap-water) and exploits it makes this a lot more effective than it would be otherwise. And Cabin Fever stands as one of the more violent offerings in a pre-Saw horror genre.
Standards for gore have changed a lot in the 8-odd years since its release, however, even today there are scenes to make even the most seasoned horror violence fan something to squirm over. Cabin Fever also stands out by having a nice array of side characters.
