Review of Cabin Fever (2003) by Mitch M — 12 May 2011
Cabin Fever is not a good film, in fact it is an overall bad horror movie. With a riveting and interesting first hour, followed by a silly, genre changing second hour mixed with an over excess of gore... you have Cabin Fever.
Now, when horror movies work, I like them. And when I saw it go a 63, I decided to give it a shot. But I was way disappointed with what I saw. Like I said before, I was intriguied with the first hour. College kids, 5 to be precise, go to a cabin in the woods. Immediate thought --- Slasher guy will terrorize them all. No, its something far more interesting. A disease hits the cabin from a hermit in the woods who got it from his dog. He asks the teens for help, and instead they end up lighting him on fire. He goes to the river and dies, and unfortuenatly he lands right by the water pump. So whenever the teens drink water they will get the Cabin Fever. The Fever basically eats your skin away, makes you cough up blood, and then kills you in a painful way. The town near the cabin is very whacked up as well. When the hot blonde gets the Fever, they know they need help. One of the teens goes into town, and instead of getting help he gets chased out by guns. Everyone ends up getting the Fever (except the fruity, germophobic teen) and everyone dies.
Why I didnt like it--- Well it did not know what genre it wanted to be. A horror or a comedy. And yes, it really tried to be a comedy. With corny, unfunny lines, but it tried. And because of these "funny moments", it completley ruined the film. By the end you were like "What the hell did I watch?" It was just plain stupid! I dont want to go into the jokes it tried to make, because youd have to see the film itself to get them.
Cabin Fever---- 4/10.
