Review of Cabaret (1981) by Nadine S — 25 Jan 2012
Seriously I really don't like musicals. They boire me to death and every time someone start singing I just want to punch them. That said this film is really well done and all the singing numbers take place in a cabaret, so pretty much it doesn't spoil the story nor make this film look like a singing movie. It's very entertaining and I must say this Liza Minnelli is doing a great job. Her performance is pitch perfect, a good mix of funny & fragile, excentric & shy at the same time, I haven't seen anything else with her in it but for this film I must say she blew me away even though she looks a bit like a tranny, she manages to shine & be beautifull.
I'm actually surprised I enjoyed this film, but seriously give it a go because behind all the glitter & the madness, there is a strong critic of the german society in the 30's, on the verge of Hitler rise to power & the birth of Nazism.
