Review of BUtterfield 8 (1960) by Steve S — 14 Jul 2009
** (out of four).
Elizabeth Taylor won an Oscar for this film more out of sympathy (her husband had recently died in an accident & she had suffered from an illness) than because the film performance deserved an award.
Taylor plays a high priced call girl who still lives with her mother. She refuses to see herself as a prostitute.
There is some fun campy dialogue, but the film is mostly a mess and Taylor's performance isn't one of her best.
