Review of Burlesque (2009) by Eytan D — 08 Feb 2014

Here's the problem with "Burlesque": it's all been done before. This is your standard "girl leaves home, follows her dreams, and finds success" movie. And at times, the film can't decide if it should take itself seriously or not at all.

Therefore, this story gives off meh results. But as a musical, this one actually pays off quite well. Christina Aguilera's not an Oscar-winner, but I've seen way worse acting. The strength of the movie lies in the songs and the choreography, and those are both terrific.

Both Aguilera and Cher turn in powerhouse vocal performances, and the choreography is really neat. So, in terms of originality, "Burlesque" fails. In terms of theatricality and music, the movie hits the bullseye.
