Review of Last Shift (2014) by Eytan D — 21 Nov 2015
I normally don't go for obscure horror titles unless the reception has been great for it. I'd heard just a few things about "Last Shift" and decided to give it a shot. This one took me completely by surprise, and managed to be a pretty solid horror treat.
Yes, it has its jump scares. Yes, the heroine does some silly things sometimes (only to drive the story, of course, and she still remains likable and brave). Yes, it's gory. But "Last Shift's" director, Anthony DiBlasi, is more interested in dread and mood, and there's a genuine sense of that right from the opening frame.
And rest assured, the film has some nightmarish imagery you won't be able to shake. So if you're running through your Netflix queue and stumble upon this one, give it a watch. "Last Shift" remembers that you can still top gore with tension.
