Review of Bullitt (1968) by Antti K — 14 Feb 2009
An elegant police story from a more civilized age when being a detective meant footwork instead of just going to the lab and then blasting away. McQueen is as cool as a cucumber and the cars look great.
Using real locations makes beautiful San Francisco - lit by street lights and the rising sun - one of the main characters in the film, especially during the chase. Both devices were later used with equal success in the French Connection.
The relaxed pace and great moody jazz score create a wonderful atmosphere that stays with you even after the end credits roll.
