Review of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) by Tim S — 06 Oct 2017
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (or just simply known as Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein) is a horror comedy from the latter years of the Universal horror monster era, when they were trying mix-ups and mash-ups to continue the success of the previous films.
This one teams up the silly comedians with not just Frankenstein's Monster, but also Dracula, The Wolf Man, and a surprise appearance by the Invisible Man (voiced by Vincent Price). Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr.
reprise their monster roles, but unfortunately, Boris Karloff chose not to take part in the production. Instead, they went with actor Glenn Strange (a perfect namesake to fill the role). Still, it's a terrific ensemble of the horror greats alongside these two goofy guys who get caught up in a scheme to give Frankenstein's monster a new brain.
It's not a completely successful mix of horror and comedy, but overall, this one will be on repeat in my household every Halloween for how enjoyable and silly it is.
