Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Julian T — 11 Dec 2011
What a crazy and imaginative idea for a movie! The fact that the actors basically play it straight actually kinda helps. tpp. It's really funny to see Ossie Davis in a film like this, playing this type of role. This is a horror comedy, or rather, a dark comedy with bits of horror thrown in, but it's also a really touching and interesting study about three leaders of some sort who are all supposed to be dead, but aren't as well as a look at mortality in general. I love this this is not only low budget, but that CGI was kept to a minimum. You couldn't do this kind of film and get the same results if it were a big budget studio affair- there's just no way. Bruce Campbel delivers as always, and I already praised Davis. The two have pretty good chemistry together.
I didn't like this film as much as I thought I would, and it's not an extremely great movie overall, but it's still a fun and entertaining ride.
