Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by David B — 06 Jan 2011

I guess like a lot of other people i'm a fan of training day and unfortunately this just didn't live up to that promise. I don't think i've ever seen Don Cheadle in anything that made me think he was a great actor and the same goes for Gere and Hawke and Snipes.

So, it was fairly middle of the road in terms of acting. BUT... Gere's character is fantastic, despite the cliches of it being his last week on the job and having to teach a rookie blah blah, it was still a great piece of writing.

As an ensemble piece it suffers in the same way that most do - it doesn't hold it together well enough and the stories seem not unrelated as such but just rather unengaging. I think a film of richard Gere's character story would have been much more rewarding and would have obliterated the over the top melodrama of don cheadles ending, which was stupid.
