Review of Bronson (2009) by John M — 12 Nov 2017
Even if you don't like violence I would still strongly recommend this film as a biopic. The cinematography, direction, soundtrack and Tom Hardys amazing performance make for a piece of art. Whilst many of Charles Bronsons actual antics are left out, the film still gives a perfect insight to how prison (especially solitary confinement) can turn people into worse offenders than they were when they entered.
Its worth mentioning Bronson stated in the audio introduction: that no one could play him better than Hardy. He wasnt joking. Hardy didn't only visit Bronson in prison several times, he also put on 3 stone of muscle in just 5 weeks in order to play "Britian's most expensive prisoner" and reportedly ended up doing 2500 press ups a day near filming.
With a dash of comedy blurring the line between horror and hilarity, Bronson keeps entertained from start to finish. Its well worth the watch, even more so if you want to see Hardy in the performance of a lifetime.
5 Star entertainment.
