Review of Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) by Mackenzie S — 02 Jun 2008
It is so difficult to properly critique a film made in the 1910s in the 21st century. The social norms were so different from today. Yes, it is racist, using words like "The Yellow Man" and "Chinky", but I appriciate this film.
Lillian Gish always makes me melt, her features are so delicate and pure; it's unreal. The shots of the film are wonderful and powerful. I enjoyed it and have found and appreciation for it.
