Review of Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) by George L — 03 Sep 2007
"What makes you so good to me, Chinky?".
Hailed by many as Griffith's masterpiece, this silent film stands up to the test of time quite well. Griffith pioneered much of film grammar and this film remains easy to follow for the modern viewer. Gish's portrayal of Lucy is the highlight, bringing a wordless vulnerability and frailty to the screen.
