Review of Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) by Christine A — 08 Dec 2007
Broken blossoms is silent film at its simple best. Beautiful set design, wonderful costumes, but most of all Lilian gish, who is just wonderful as the girl with whom Barthelmess falls in love with, and whom her father treats like a punchbag and slave.
this is a must see for anyone in love with silent cinema, by far the best of Griffith films, the scene where gish trys to smile for the first time is heartbreaking.
