Review of Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) by Calvin C — 06 Oct 2013
A bittersweet Romeo & Juliet type love story about a Chinese man and a young girl who randomly meet after she runs away from her abusive father. The love story could have used more developing, but Lillian Gish is heartbreaking as the girl who just wants to be happy. This is one of D.W. Griffith's best works and one of the saddest endings I have ever seen.
Grade: A-.
