Review of Broadway Danny Rose (1984) by Geoff T — 18 Mar 2012
In Broadway Danny Rose, Allen takes on some of his typical subject matter: Hollywood, love triangles, but there are some new ones too. What's marvelous here is the characterizations. Almost all of the comedy derives from a funny character not overstaying his welcome on screen.
That being said I think Broadway Danny Rose tries to balance too much. It's a Hollywood star story, a love story, a comic thriller about the mob, etc. And at the end the sudden pathos was hard to buy, but it's not a bad film.
It has a lot of laughs and its missteps are minor.
