Review of Broadcast News (1987) by Kim B — 27 Jul 2017
Every once in awhile a movie comes along that takes you on a journey. This was one of those kinds of film. At first didnt have much faith in this film at first and thought it would be a boring dated news story but boy was I wrong.
Where the outfits and tech dated yes, but everything else was so relevant. I always wondered how the anchors kept getting more and more attractive and like models vs the authoritive grandpas of yesterday evening news.
Thru this film I realized a lot of them use ear pieces with some smarty pants telling them what to say. It makes a lot more sense now. Anyways I was thrilled to finally see a woman character that I could relate to-very intelligent, confident, perfectionist, good looking but not a model lol and ethical.
We need more of these Jane characters! However the ending just gutted me a little altho I completely get her choices and feel this is why some successful women are single-cant find someone to match them.
I prob wouldve been more forgiving to Tom but honestly she made the right choice about Aaron-it is either there or it isnt. This film had all the right stuff great screenplay, great characters, great actors, jack nicholson and joan cusack cameo, behind the scenes stuff, humor, ethics, realism, and a love triangle.
Great film!
