Review of Brighton Rock (1948) by Andrew I — 03 Aug 2011
Having just finished the book, I dusted off the DVD for a viewing. Haven't seen this in a long time and what a cracking little British film this is. Attenborough has arguably never been better and I also think Marsh's performance is pitch perfect.
The character of Ida still feels a little too forced but all in all this is a brilliant movie. Even the changed ending although seemingly feel-good is still to a degree left open ended and ultimately for the viewer to decide.
Fantastic...question is, do I subject myself to the remake?
