Review of Bright (2017) by Adam R — 01 Feb 2018
CRITICS ARE NOT BEING PAID OFF.
Has it occurred to anyone here that this could just be a fundamentally flawed film with a completely dunderheaded view on race relations? Or it's jarring tonal shifts make for some incredibly awkward dialogue and "comedy"? Or that the painfully cliched story and character types coupled with poor lead performances (save for Joel Edgerton who somehow can turn in something genuine despite being buried under a ton of makeup) make for an incredibly toothless final product? Or the number of plot points that virtually go nowhere?
Could it be that this movie is just garbage. No! It's the professional critics, whose literal job it is to analyze and discuss films, who must be wrong! It's a conspiracy against Netflix which is being unfairly maligned!!! Forget that many other Netfilix exclusive films that came out in 2017 were met with very positive reviews (Gerald's Game, 1922, Okja, The Meyerowitz Stories, To the Bone etc). No! it's the critics who don't get it!!
Yeah this movie stinks.
