Review of Bright (2017) by Bryce R — 01 Jan 2018
Bright was entertaining. One disclaimer, you have to go in with the mindset of, "This looks a little ridiculous, but I don't really have anything better to watch...I'll give it a go". There were a few times that in the movie where I felt that the action was drawn out to far. Also, the movie would have been better served if they went into some depth on the culture and history of this alternate universe. It better than some, and worse than others. The 88 audience score is too generous, and the 28 critic score is too rough.
The "pro" critics seems to want a work of art, and seem to care less about the entertainment value of movie. You'll see many critics call this an overdone "buddy-cop movie" and attack it because... ...its not new! ...Its not brilliant writing! ...It doesn't make striking commentary on out political issues! The critics are so far off base today. The Last Jedi is lauded by critics while having a dismal audience review (91 critic to 51 audience on 1/1/18). The inverse is true for The Greatest Showman (55c to 90a on 1/1/18). Critics need to wake up and realize that their reviews have one purpose: Help the average Joe/Jane figure out weather they should go see a movie.
