Review of Bright (2017) by Morgan D — 25 Dec 2017

I really enjoyed this movie. Not perfect and there is certainly room for a sequel to explore the world more, but it was great to see urban fantasy doen well in a movie. I also really appreciated a female villain who wasn't about seduction and sex, but purely about killing what got in her way.

Great subtle world building if you pay attention to the details and nuances going on during the film, and I appreciated the layers of culture given to the different species. Also it was really nice to see an action movie without a forced romance subplot.

This isn't a high fantasy movie thrust into our real world, but a cop movie set in an alternate reality that's our world with elves and orcs, and for that it did a great job at being believable.

Looking forward to a possible sequel.
