Review of Bright (2017) by Lopolo M — 03 Jan 2019

I went into this movie fully expecting it to be absolutely terrible but it surprisingly okay. The premise is pretty dumb and it feels far too under utilised for it to not continue being dumb throughout the movie, but they do make it kind of work.

My main gripes would be the patchy dialogue and really unsubtle remarks that to me seemed to be trying to make a point about race and class within our own world, but they don't really apply because they actually are different races, they even seem to have different emotions and abilities and some are considered literal vermin (fairy lives don't matter, absolutely cringe line).

The story wasn't great and 'magic wand' will never stop sounding ridiculous but I thought the action scenes were pretty decent and the villains were actually pretty interesting. Not a bad movie but not exactly a good one either.

Oh and props to the makeup department as it looks really good, I can't imagine what a nightmare it would have been doing that before shooting everyday.
