Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by James-Masaki R — 17 Jan 2011
Posh English, the sexless marriage, the wrongness of infidelity. Are these just stereotypes or a reflection of the society? David Lean's film was banned in some places in England as it showed some of the positive aspects of infidelity and thoughts of suicide, but by putting the taboos in the film in a social light, it was a groundbreaker for its time.
Although by looking through today's standards it is NOT your typical "affair" film, so don't be looking for sex scenes or hot stuff. Maybe that's why I liked it so much, as it was all about society's repression and moral dilemma through acting and the mind.
.. Fuck the sex scenes is what I say. "Brief Encounter" is the epitome of cinema and affairs.
