Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Stasi M — 26 Jul 2009
Everything about this charming British romance is something to aspire to. The sweet natured characters are wonderfully countered by the harsh city scenery ad the naivety of the sentiment when you begin to unfold the sham of marriage incentives.
The train is a beautiful metaphor without feeling cliched. It also kick-started the career of one of the best British directors of all time who went on to direct some of the most memorable pictures of the 20th century: Great Expectations, Lawrence of Arabia, Passage to India and Bridge on the River Kwai.
A genuine joy to watch and splendidly shot.
