Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Lynne N — 30 May 2007
Contrary to popular opinion, I preferred the first movie to this sequel. Karloff is once again amazing as the creature - both frightening and sympathetic at the same time. And Elsa Lanchester is amazing in her very brief appearance as 'The Bride', well and truly deserving her cult status.
However, the sequel does not feel anywhere as near as dark as the original. And the whole thing got off to a bad start for me with the terrible prologue - who hired that dude to play Byron? Who told him he could act?
