Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Jake A — 16 Aug 2017
Though this sequel to the 1931 original is better than the first film it is unfortunately let down by a big flaw in a relatively faultless film. That flaw is towards the end of the film where the titular Bride of Frankenstein is only onscreen for the final five minutes of the film and does absolutely nothing despite all the build up leading to her arrival which makes the ending unsatisfying and a big let down.
The rest of the film is great though with a solid cast, a nice introduction, love the fact it is interwoven into the finale of the last film while also expanding upon what made that film great and simultaneously exploring new themes, the score is decent and the production is even better.
It also has a real fun and camp tone to it and it ramps up the action and violence of the previous film to new and hilarious heights.
