Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Kenneth B — 26 Oct 2009
BOF probably edges out the original. It is an altogether more sophisticated film. Elements of early post-modernism are present in an early scene as characters discuss 'writing' a story in which the monster gets a mate.
There are some interesting visuals which seem well ahead of their time with Dr. Pretorious' little creations a good example. The monster begins learning and gaining more 'human' traits as the film progresses.
The result is a more complete and complex film which is probably as good as any straight horror sequel I can think of right now, in comparison to it's original that is.
