Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Jason R — 26 Oct 2009
Probably the best Universal Monster movie. The original was great, but this was even better in looks, acting, and story. It is also interesting that they got James Whale back as director and Boris Karloff and Colin Clive back since most of the movies from the time just recast the roles.
The attempts to tie the story to Mary Shelley's story are interesting, and it is odd that the story never returns to Byron, Shelley, and Shelley's storytelling. The story does borrow more from the book in the Monster's actions and behavior and Karloff does a great job humanizing the Monster in this film.
The Bride is considered one of the big Universal horror movie monsters and is only on screen for about 5 minutes and is the only Universal monster not to kill anyone.
