Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Ryan V — 09 Mar 2012
I'm a real sucker for stories about misunderstood monsters, so it shouldn't come as much surprise that this is one of my favorite movies. James Whale directs this story about a mad scientist (Ernst Thesiger) who coerces Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) into creating a female companion to the original monster.
Meanwhile, this monster (Boris Karloff) is wandering the countryside alone and gets subjected to all the cruelties and all-too-scarce kindnesses that color the human race. As a whole, The Bride of Frankenstein is a bold, occasionally bizarre, and well-made film that surpasses the good qualities of its predecessor.
