Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Andrew S — 09 Jul 2009
A beautiful and mesmerizing film. The cinematography is outstanding and I really liked the editing style as well. It just flowed so effortless and smoothly. The film's central character Nazneen takes an interesting journey through the course of the this film.
I really like how she discovers herself and her courage and doesn't find the need to depend on a man to support her. What could have easily turned in a soap opera love story stays fairly grounded.
I was quite happy with her decision and how her character arc ended. Another interesting character arc is her husband's who could have easily been made the bad guy of the movie. But instead the writer ops and goes and different route taking him on his own journey which changes him and for the better.
