Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Omer R — 25 Jan 2008
Great film about relationships, cultural identity and a search for belonging. About the idealised reality that many have of their former homelands. Most importantly shows how much more needs to be done to empower women in our (asian) societies, and recognize their strength.
Also shows the impact of the events of 9/11 on the fragility of (Muslim) immigrant societies. Great performances all round -- beautiful Bangladeshi music. Not sure how close it is to the book.
