Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Michele S — 19 Jun 2008
Brick Lane is a movie that is hard to dislike. It's a harmless film with the lead characters being very accepting of what life has to offer (except for the older child). Nazneen accepts her fate, her older husband, the loss of her child, the husband accepts Nazneen's affair, the subtle changes in personality as the movie progresses, the boyfriend accepts Nazneen's decision without a fight.
I'm glad I watched the movie because it introduced me to non-cliched South Asian characters for once (I can't handle any more of those stereotypical curry eating South Asians). What was missing from the film for me was passion.
A sincere effort though ....
