Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Valerie P — 15 Aug 2008
This film begins about halfway through the book, and while it tries to fill in and recapture the scenes that came before, in my opinion it falls short of fully flushing out the whole story. Nazneen is a Bangladeshi who arrives in London with her new husband from an arranged marriage.
Sixteen years later she misses her home and her sister, but has made a life for herself and her family amongst the crowded flats and colorful market stalls. As she tries to unveil her true self, she is surprised by her revelations.
