Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Asma N — 16 Mar 2009
Somehow the movie succeeds in avoiding stereotypification of the immigrant experience, as well as over-simplification of a sensitive issue like female empowerment. The surprise ending deserves an extra star for originality.
Only gripe, the non-Bengali actors struggling to speak broken Bengali, which not only sounds lame at times, but also loses believability.
