Review of Brick (2006) by Arianeta L — 06 Jul 2011
Everything felt completely original as I left my everyday sense of reality to step into the film noir ambiance of Brick. We are lead willingly into a cloudy world of drugs (no actual drug use depicted) and all that high school violence with some of the smartest twists I've seen in the industry, waiting around each corner.
The acting is so excellent, the director went above and beyond to make sure each character is depicted perfectly. In fact, nothing about this intense thriller gives away the direction of the film, yet still it kept me captivated, wondering what will happen next.
We follow Brendan (skillfully portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), through a maze of deceit and intrigue to find his missing ex-girlfriend Emily. The world we enter is a stylized and fascinating cinematographic journey that kept me pinned to my seat and wound up tight with suspense.
The only glitch is you have to sit down and watch this movie without distractions or you're gonna be lost and disappointed. The lingo is both unique and smart but spoken very quickly so turn on the captions before letting it roll -- this will make the difference between being confused and being amused.
