Review of Brick (2006) by Louise D — 17 Feb 2013
This knocked my socks off when I saw it at the cinema and half a dozen watches later it is still thrilling. It entirely gets away with the film noir pastiche, both having fun with it and using the tropes skillfully to add tension and depth.
It also works perfectly for the intense, sealed world of teen social life. Not to mention it is stunningly shot, well acted, and only Rian Johnson's first feature. A fine, fine film.
