Review of Brick (2006) by Andrew K — 22 Dec 2016
An ode to noir done right. Partaking in noir cliches without feeling the least bit cliched itself. Well cast, and somehow, amazingly not over the top, this film takes a difficult premise and manages to make it work flawlessly.
Gordon-Levitt showed his skills as a matured adult actor with this roll, and his hard-nosed gumshoe/outsider could almost be a young Marlowe so perfectly does he embody the noir aesthetic. It may not be a movie for everyone, but if you're a fan of the genre it will easily be worth your time.
