Review of Brick (2006) by Jay M — 05 Apr 2013
Rion Johnson is just a genuis story teller who on his first outing as full length feature director swings for fences and nails a grand slam. Noir set in High School is like peanut butter and Jelly, bread and bologna, yin and yang, Ethel and Lucy, yadda yadda yadda.
While not perfect, Brick retains all the hard edge boldness of it's french predecessors while at the same time misleading a cynical audience to believe they are in familiar ground. An assumption that is slowly knocked down brick by brick.
