Review of Brick (2006) by Doctor S — 18 Jul 2014
Hard-nosed Dashiell Hammett-style modern noir distinguishes itself with a high school setting and colorful, if at times inscrutable, slangy dialogue. This unique world of drugs and thugs is completely ruled by teenagers with adults only appearing in two instances: a vice principal who makes ineffective disciplinary threats, and the local drug kingpin's cheerily oblivious mother who serves his crew juice with a smile! An involving potboiler with a very effective cast led by Joshua Grodon-Levitt, I've not seen a movie quite like Brick before which earns it extra points.
