Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Liam U — 28 Feb 2010
Another interesting women-bashing Von Trier film, not quite as effective or as memorable as 'Antichrist (2009)' and doesn't quite have the same impact as 'Dogville (2003),' but it is very well acted with Emily Watson giving a great performance.
The story meanders and it's point is left unclear with a film that isn't particularly memorable, but watchable enough. Von Trier's style of film-making is very interesting and a unique experience, but the story could have done with more development and a stronger conclusion.
Still, 'Breaking the Waves (1996)' is a different type of love story to the standard Hollywood affair, and for that it stands out and warrants an open-minded viewing.
