Review of The Matrix Reloaded (2003) by Liam U — 29 Jan 2013
Should have left it at 'The Matrix (1999)' but, alas, they didn't. The story here attempts to go more in-depth in order to answer questions that were better left unanswered, and in doing so the plot very quickly becomes very convoluted. The acting is all pretty standard stuff, although Harold Perrineau is a nice addition. There are more special effects, naturally, but at times the apparent use of CGI is distracting instead of making the film more enjoyable. The fight scenes vary between immense and pitiful, but the freeway chase scene is spectacular and a great action set piece. When the story takes us back into the matrix, things pick up a notch and are far more interesting than the rather boring story which takes place on Zion. Could have done without the sweaty underground cave rave too.
Second viewing, and after how good the first film is this is just seriously disappointing.
