So powerful and quite bleak...
Lars von trier's depiction of women is definitely not favorable- though this is quite reminiscent of today's patriarchal treatment of women due to the value of compulsive masculinity-.
Emily Watson's Beth is a survivor (of sorts), though the ending is quite grim..
Also the hand-held camera style and cinematography (a von Trier trademark) will take some getting used to, though most people of my era will not get it- let alone appreciate it... Though it's their loss....
