Review of Breaking the Waves (2014) by Lindsay B — 09 Nov 2009
I rented this before I knew it was a Lars von Trier film. Ever since Dogville I have pretty much disliked this man. His mysogyny (which is not new info I know) is too much for me to appreciate the art. I am able to overlook this in Alfred Hitchcock's work because it is rarely the focus of the film.
With von Trier it disappoints me, because I love his style, and Breaking the Waves is no exception. I love it when there is no score, and the film relies on acting and story. I wish he would put his talent to better use, and shelf the utter degredation of women thing he seems obsessed with.
