Review of Breaking and Entering (2006) by Susan P — 17 Nov 2007
This movie starts off strongly and then just completely falls apart. The characters' motivations are mystifying and their actions unsatisfying and unconvincing. I love all of the actors who are in it, but I was completely exasperated by the end. When Jude Law says, with a *meaningful* raise of the eyebrows, 'Thank your mother for *mending things for me*', I wondered if he was going to take a baseball bat and start hitting us over the head, just in case anyone in the back might have missed his incredibly obvious point.
I can hardly believe this came from Minghella (Truly, Madly, Deeply; The English Patient). But then, I remember throwing things at the screen during Cold Mountain too. Yuck!
